Whether I’m travelling, enjoying local flavours or at home planning the next adventure and loving where I live, food and travel are always on my mind.
Whilst at home in Melbourne, Australia, I like to work with seasonal produce, ideally sourced locally and getting back to basics of good ingredients and simple tastes, although my workspace is tiny I roast, bake, broil and preserve as if I’m in a huge commercial kitchen making the most of the season, available produce and every inch of my space.
Growing up on an orchard in country Victoria, I didn’t really appreciate the taste of a perfectly ripe peach plucked from the tree, taking that first bite into the lusciously juicy fruit with the juice running down my chin and hands, the glorious aroma and taste. Living from season to season and even at a young age understanding that an ill-timed early frost could mean a lean year ahead if the crops suffered. Or indeed the joy and contentment on my parents face when it was a bumper year.
After many years of being a city dweller that I have come to appreciate the simple pleasure of beautiful produce right at their peak. Cooking doesn’t have to be complicated, my recipes are in the whole simple, although some are time-consuming. I am one of those folk who really gains great joy from the process as much as the consuming of food. I understand not everyone sees cooking as a form of relaxation and in our busy world, we do not always have the luxury of time, even if we adapt recipes slightly there is no reason why we can’t all enjoy delicious homemade food.
My aim is to share my adventures at home, abroad and the joy of cooking and eating well, with the knowledge that every dish you serve you know exactly what has gone into it – especially love.
Writing and photography are my outlets to share my passion for travel and food and all things related. I look forward to sharing my experiences both in my kitchen and outside with you. I appreciate many of my lovely friends have shared your recipes and ideas with me and I hope I do justice to your dishes, hints and tips.
I hold a Masters of Gastronomic Tourism and Diplome Universitaire du Gout, de la Gastronomie et des Arts de la Table achieved through the Hautes Etudes du Gout program, University de Reims Champagne-Ardenne and Le Cordon Bleu Paris.
Currently, I am immersing myself in learning the French language.
